WiFi setup for Android
This is a step by step tutorial for connecting Android 11 devices to the eduroam network. All steps can be done at home.
Step 0: Please note that the use of eduroam is only possible if you have set a password for the "eduroam" service in the CIM portal.
Step 1: Delete the old configuration
Check whether or not the eduroam network is already saved on your device.
Open Setting -> Connections -> Wi-Fi and click the setting symbol next to the network. If anything is saved, click "Forget" at the bottom of the screen.
Then, turn off the WiFi and wait for 10 seconds. Turn it on again afterwards.
Step 2: Connect to setup eduroam
If you want, you can use your mobile data. In that case, skip this step. If you can't or don't want to use your mobile data, connect to the configuration network "setup eduroam". You can access this network on many places on campus. The connection only allows for actions related to setting up the eduroam network. Information on where you can find the setup eduroam network can be found here: WiFi configuration network
Step 3: Download the configuration app
To set up the connection, we use the app "geteduroam". Open the Playstore, search the app and download it.
Step 4: Execute the app
Open the app and search for Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
Enter your username and password. The username has to be of the following pattern:
For employees: suabc123@uni-kiel.de
For students: stu123456@uni-kiel.de
Make sure there is no blank space behind or in front of your username.
Check if the WiFi is connected in the WiFi settings.
Troubleshooting
Authentication error
Make sure your using the correct password, if you're unsure set a new one in the CIM-Service-Portal.
Follow all the steps again, especially step 1. Take special care in typing your username as described in step 4.
Connection won't work
If the connection won't work even though you entered the correct username and password, try the tutorial again and use the app eduroamCAT from the Playstore instead.
