Wifi for events

For events on campus in locations with insufficient WiFi coverage for the event, the data center offers a mobile WiFi installation. This installation, also known as the event setup, can be booked. It is installed and commissioned by the data center at the event location. To ensure availability, we need a booking of at least 30 days before the start of the event.


The installation is booked by email to wlan-events@rz.uni-kiel.de.

When booking, please provide the following details:

  • A list of the rooms and / or areas to be supplied
  • Period of the event (start and end) - a maximum of 14 days
  • Expected number of participants
  • Contact details of a contact person

The booking must be made no later than 30 days before the start of the event. For bookings made at a later date, we cannot guarantee provision or will reject them. Furthermore, the components available for the event setup are limited, we will give priority to bookings that have been received first! The maximum booking period is 14 days.

Services provided

The WiFi networks that are common on campus are offered. The WLAN access points are positioned on stands included in the setup in the rooms of the event, and the corresponding cabling is laid.

The cables installed by the data center must not be modified during the event. We check the installation once after it has been set up; further operation takes place within the framework of the otherwise possible support for the WLAN infrastructure.

For the WLAN access of external guests, WLAN guest access is still required; this must be obtained separately from a WLAN guest officer.
