With BigBlueButton the Computing Centre provides an audio and video conference system for team meetings and online teaching.

Service

BigBlueButton was developed as an open source web conference system for use in e-learning. It can be used for audio and video conferences and has an integrated function for open and private chats, a shared whiteboard, an online survey tool and the possibility to share presentations, videos or screens. The possible duration of a conference or presentation is currently limited to 4 hours. If a session is longer than 30 minutes without active participation / participants, it is ended.

Access

The system can be found at https://www.rz.uni-kiel.de/go/bbb and is accessible worldwide without VPN. To register, you only need a valid RZ-account (e.g. for VPN access or using the Ricoh printers) with the associated account password. No separate service booking is necessary. The best results can currently be achieved with  Firefox, Edge or Chrome.

Benefits

Service of the University Computing Centre, no special license needed.
All data stay on university servers, no VPN required, worldwide invitation to further participants via link is possible.

Normally this service can be used around the clock.

Share you own vidoes in BBB via CAU-Cloud

Prerequisites:

- active CAU-Cloud Account (cloud.rz.uni-kiel.de)
- uploaded the video into the cloud
- shared this video (public link, e.g. https://cloud.rz.uni-kiel.de/index.php/s/jxRmcAQGSMFRsM7)

Share the video in a BBB session:
- open the action menu  (+) and choose "Share an external video"
- Copy the CAU-Cloud share link and add: /download?.mp4 at the  end:

  https://cloud.rz.uni-kiel.de/index.php/s/jxRmcAQGSMFRsM7/download?.mp4
- available formats are .mp4 and .m4v (adjust the link accordingly)
