Hardware Dell 2010

The older notebooks have the following features:

  • Processor:            Intel Core i5, 2 x 2,4 GHz
  • RAM:                    4 GB
  • Display:                15,4'' HD+, 1600x900
  • Graphics card:      Intel GMA HD
  • Hard drive:            250 GB SSD
  • DVD/CD drive:      CD-RW, DVD+/-RW
  • Network cards:     Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi
  • Interfaces:             VGA, DisplayPort (DVI adapter included), 4 x USB 2.0, eSATA, headphones / speaker output, microphone input, ExpressCard Slot, PC Card Slot (PCMCIA), IEEE 1394, SD Card Slot, Smartcard Slot, connector for docking station

The devices have fixed internet addresses for the LAN network card, so that it is not necessary to reconfigure the devices when connecting them to an institute network. However, the configurations of the network routers on campus have to be adjusted accordingly by the computing centre. Therefore, it is necessary to inform the computing centre about the planned location of the laptops when renting them. This information is requested in the application form.

The Wi-Fi adapters receive the IP address via a DHCP query, so that normally no adjustment is necessary there.

The following software is standard on 2010 Dell notebooks:

  • Windows 10 Education german 64 Bit

Own software requests and installation

The borrower has administrator/root rights on the notebooks in the operating systems. Own software installations or adjustments are therefore possible. After the loan and return of the notebooks, a clone procedure is used to restore the notebooks to their original configuration.

If you consider it desirable to include software in the central basic configuration, please forward a corresponding proposal to the computing centre (pcsupport@rz.uni-kiel.de). If the software is not free of charge, you can of course apply to the university for the desired software if there is sufficient demand and the expected workload is sufficient. For a number of programs there are also so-called classroom licenses, the price of which is often considerably lower than that of research licenses.
