WIFI configuration for ChromeOS
This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to configure the eduroam network on devices running the ChromeOS operating system.
Before you start, make sure that your Chromebook is on the latest OS update and all available updates are installed.
You will also need an internet connection to perform the setup. You can use the “setup eduroam” network, which is available in some university buildings, or your own hotspot. Alternatively, you can complete steps 1 and 2 at home or at another location where you have internet access and then complete step 3 at the university.
Step 0:
Please note that you can only configure eduroam after you have set a password for the corresponding service in the CIM Portal.
Step 1:
Open the Website cat.eduraom.org in your browser and click on the button to Download the eduroam installer.

You will be asked to select your university. Select the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Should the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel not be visible as an option, just use the search function and search for “Kiel”.

You will be asked to download the installer for Chrome OS. Use the button labeled with “eduroam” to do so.
If the offered installer is not for Chrome OS use the “Choose another installer to download” option and select Chrome OS

Safe the installation file in a place you can find easily and go to step 2.
Step 2:
Open the Chrome Browser and go to the URI “chrome://network/#general”. At the bottom of the page you will find the headline “Import ONC file”. Use the “Choose File” option and select the file downloaded in the previous step.

If each step was performed correctly you should be notified about one imported network at the bottom of the page.

Continue with step 3.
Step 3:
To continue with this step, you must be in a location where the eduroam network is available.
Open the Settings of you Chromebook, select “Network” and then “WIFI”. Select the eduroam network.

Select “Configure” to set up the network.

You will need to enter an identity and a password to access the eduroam network.
Identity:
For example:
suabc132@uni-kiel.de for employees
stu123456@uni-kiel.de for Students
Password
If you don’t remember you password, please follow the tutorial on how to change your password in the CIM Portal.
