VPN (Virtual Private Network)

For security and licensing reasons, some services and data can only be accessed from the university network. Therefore, a connection to the campus network from locations outside the university (e.g. from home) is a prerequisite for such services, such as access to online libraries or event documents from some institutions. This is the so-called VPN connection (virtual private network).

Please note that VPN is not required for an internet connection via the university's WLAN.

The data center offers 3 ways for connecting to the university network via VPN:

  • with the VPN client, FortiClient (preferred) ,
  • with the on-board Tools of the operating system, L2TP / Psec (preferred).
Important note: To use the connection methods mentioned above, you need to log in with your account password.

A. VPN client installed on the device (FortiClient)

You can install the FortiClient VPN client software on your device to connect your device to the university network.

Important note : FortiClient is available in two versions: the VPN Only version, which only enables VPN, and the full version, which contains other software modules in addition to VPN (e.g. virus scanners). The data center does not support the full version of FortiClient and has no licenses for the contained software parts. Please install the VPN Only Client.

Please follow the instructions for installing Forticlients for
