Campus copier as printer under MacOS X
The information on the previous copiers can be found in the
information on the previous campus copiers
by the Facilities Management.
You will also find information, notes and instructions (in german) on how to use the printers and the billing codes there.
The following instructions are only intended for employees who want to use the copiers on campus as printers under MacOS X. Other devices are available for students, where both integration and payment system differ.
Printer driver setup
Before setting up the printer, the required drivers must be installed.
First download the drivers recommended by the service provider.
Open the .dmg file and the installation file inside and follow the installation instructions.
Printer setup
Now click on Add (+).
You now need the Advanced Settings as an option (gear icon). If this icon is not yet available, open the customization menu in the new window by right-clicking on the toolbar and dragging the Advanced icon to the toolbar next to the Windows printer icon.
The setup can now be completed under Advanced.
Set the following settings there:
- Type: Windows printer via spoolss
- Device: Another device
- URL: smb://campusprint.uni-kiel.de/campusprint_color_ps
For the name, select any name, for example Campusprint MFCs
The drivers must be set to RICOH IM C4500 PS via Select Software.
After successful setup, the printer will be listed in the printer settings window.
Password request at first use
When you use the printer for the first time, the operating system will notice that a password is requested and ask you for it. Then enter the RZ identifier under which print jobs are billed. This identifier must be assigned to a billing code. The password is the account password that is always used in Active Directory.
If you check the box 'Remember this password in my keychain', the password will be saved in the 'Keychain management' of macOS. Remember, if you change the account password then update the password here too!
Configure printer options
To ensure that possible print options such as the finisher functions are also offered during printing, the service provider recommends making the following settings once:
To do this, go to 'Options and Supplies':
Ricoh recommends setting the following options:
- Option Tray: Lower Paper Trays
- Large Capacity Tray: Installed
- Finisher: Finisher SR3260
- PostScript: Adobe Postscript
Notes on creating print jobs / color selection of print jobs
(You can also force black/white printing on the device afterwards, see below).
The finisher options can be found in the Feature Sets 'Finishing':
Note on controlling black/white printing on the copier
Before releasing a print job on the device, you should check directly on the display whether the printout is really made in the way you want. For example, it is quite possible that a printout will be in color even though it was sent to a black-and-white queue if the print file was generated accordingly. Since a color print will cost more, you should check this on the device before printing.
You also have the option of forcing a printout in grayscale at the copier:
