DNS

The Domain Name Service (DNS) is used to translate human-readable domain names like www.rz.uni-kiel.de into numeric addresses like 10.13.06.05, which are used to send data, so it works like a telephone book.

The computing centre operates name servers, which are responsible for all domains ending in .uni-kiel.de. A list of the addresses of the name servers can be found under 'Tips and Instructions'.
